1950's/1960's Hofner or EKO - An Immaculate Piece of Guitar History
This instrument is believed to be a late 1950’s / 1960’s Hofner or Eko. After speaking with many different guitar dealers, we have been unable to identify its exact make and model.
It would seem that at some point in its life, the guitar had been Re-Finished by a previous owner, and during the Re-Finish, it lost its decals and they were never re-applied.
However, based on a few bits of evidence, such as a circular mark in the finish at the top horn of the guitar, which identifies the previous placement of the logo, this leads us to believe it is either a Hofner or Eko Archtop as they both used this logo placement.
The guitar has received a full Re-Fret, Neck Shoot + Setup along with a new Handmade Bone String Guide, a new upgraded intonated bridge and upgraded Gotoh Japan tuners, which have been aged to a relic finish to match the rest of the guitar.
All of the work was completed by Matt at MW Guitars and this is all of the information we have on the instrument.
It is a beautiful sounding instrument with a lot of character, and a mysterious origin. And now it has received all of the work that has been carried out, it plays like a dream.
We have the full job sheet detailing the work that has been implemented on this guitar to make it an immaculate example of a 1950's/60's archtop.
